Meet Garrett, one of our KidsCAN! Alumni Scholarship recipients! Garrett feels lucky to have felt the support of our KidsCAN! program during his father’s battle with cancer. Through different events, his favorite being our bowling party, Garrett connected with other kids his age going through similar experiences. He reflects on the impact of connecting with other children who had a parent or guardian with cancer, realizing how much support that offered him at the time. Participating mainly online, Garrett felt most connected through the group activities he took part in.
Inspired by his grandfather, he is now headed to Wayne Community College to study forestry. Garrett’s was able to watch his grandfather own his own lumber company and learned all about the industry in the process. With big hopes to work side by side with his grandfather, or even open his own lumber company one day, Garrett is off to begin his studies. We cannot wait to see all that Garrett achieves and are happy to support him along the way!
